GLP for Men: a comprehensive guide
Running a wellness practice, I’ve seen firsthand how GLP (Glucagon-Like Peptide) medications have transformed the lives of many of my patients. If you're a man juggling multiple responsibilities and focused on optimizing your health, you've come to the right place. Let’s walk through your options and how to integrate these powerful tools into your life, tailored to your personal goals for health, energy, and longevity.
Understanding GLP Medications
GLP medications, originally developed for type 2 diabetes, have gained popularity for their effectiveness in weight management, metabolic health, and overall wellness. These medications work by mimicking a hormone that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar levels, leading to significant improvements in weight control and energy.
Options on the Table
Injectable GLP-1 Receptor Agonists
Examples: Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy), Liraglutide (Saxenda)
Administered once weekly, these are among the most potent options for weight management and blood sugar control.
Oral GLP-1 Medications
Example: Semaglutide (Rybelsus)
A daily pill form, offering a more convenient option for some, though it may be slightly less potent than injectables.
Combination Approaches
Some patients benefit from combining GLP medications with other treatments, like diet, exercise, or additional medications, for enhanced results.
Integrating GLP Meds into Your Life
Your journey with GLP medications should be aligned with your overall wellness goals. Whether you're aiming for significant weight loss, improved metabolic health, or just a healthier lifestyle, GLP medications can be customized to your needs. Here’s how you can approach it:
For Significant Weight Loss
Starting with injectable semaglutide (Wegovy) is often the most effective option.
Combine it with a personalized, balanced diet and regular exercise regimen.
Close monitoring with your healthcare provider will ensure progress toward your weight and health goals.
For Moderate Weight Management
Oral semaglutide (Rybelsus) could be a convenient and effective choice.
Focus on sustainable lifestyle changes, like diet adjustments and consistent physical activity, alongside the medication for long-term benefits.
For Blood Sugar Control
Any GLP option can support blood sugar regulation.
Consider pairing it with continuous glucose monitoring for real-time feedback and fine-tuning of your health strategy.
For Overall Health Improvement
If you’re primarily focused on improving general health, start with lifestyle modifications. If needed, GLP medications can be added to accelerate your progress.
Focus on holistic health markers like energy levels, cardiovascular health, and mental clarity, not just weight.
Beyond Traditional GLP: Exploring Cutting-Edge Options
For men interested in staying at the forefront of wellness, there are complementary approaches to GLP medications that may enhance results:
Pendulum Glucose Control
This novel probiotic blend is designed to support healthy glucose metabolism. While not a GLP medication, it can be a beneficial supplement, particularly for those focusing on blood sugar regulation and gut health.
Akkermansia muciniphila
A promising gut bacterium, Akkermansia has been shown to support metabolic health. Some men find that adding Akkermansia supplements to their regimen improves results when combined with GLP medications. Don’t get variations that have ‘dead’ bacteria - they add no value.
Avoiding sideeffects
A common concern among men using GLP medications for weight loss is the potential for facial volume loss, often referred to as "Ozempic face." It’s important to take a comprehensive approach to health and appearance. Fat loss of the face accelerates the appearance of aging. Here are some strategies to maintain a youthful, vibrant look:
Gradual Weight Loss: Rapid weight loss can lead to skin sagging. Aim for a steady, moderate pace of weight loss to allow your skin time to adapt.
Exercise: Incorporate facial exercises and resistance training to help maintain muscle tone and skin elasticity.
Light Therapy: LED light masks can stimulate collagen production, helping to keep your skin firm and youthful.
Facial Massage: Regular facial massage can improve circulation, maintain elasticity, and keep skin looking healthy.
Hydration and Nutrition: Stay hydrated and ensure your diet includes nutrient-rich foods that support skin health, such as omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants.
Making Your Decision
Choosing to start GLP medication is a personal decision that should be made in consultation with your healthcare provider. Consider your health goals, lifestyle, and any potential side effects. As a physician focused on men’s wellness, I can guide you through this process, tailoring a treatment plan that aligns with your individual goals for health, performance, and longevity.
Remember, GLP medications are powerful tools, but they work best when combined with a healthy lifestyle. Your path to better health is unique, and with the right approach, GLP medications can be a transformative part of your journey—helping you achieve your goals not just for today, but for long-term vitality and well-being.

Our commitment to living medicine
LIFE. If we are not alive, nothing else matters.
LOVE. Love is what really does the healing. (Without love, a disease can be cured, but the person is not healed. With love, the person can heal without curing the disease.)
LAUGHTER. Laughter brings hope and light into healing. It is the spark that activates the life force.
LABOR. Labor is necessary to bring the first three Ls into reality on this dimension of consciousness. We really have to work at healing.
LISTENING. Listening is necessary for healing to become real: listening to ourselves, others and the world around us.
Reversing cognitive impairments
A 49-year old woman who noted progressive difficulty with word finding and facial recognition went on the protocol after undergoing quantitative neuropsychological testing at a major university. She had been told she was in the early stages of cognitive decline and was therefore ineligible for an Alzheimer's prevention program. After several months on the protocol she noted a clear improvement in recall, reading, navigating, vocabulary, mental clarity and facial recognition. Her foreign language ability had returned. Nine months after beginning the program she did a repeat of the neuropsychological testing at the same university site. She no longer showed evidence of cognitive decline.
